Interpretations to Post 40: Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam

40. Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam

There has been no comments/likes on this post so far that I posted on 14-Oct-2018! So, I assume the post has been subject to ambiguity. I thought I would interpret it for better understanding as to what I meant that time.

That was one of the sleepless nights, I was away from the family, and also due to work pressure. To try to get sleep, I was attempting to chant Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam very slowly and try to record my voice to check the recording. The time was around 2.30 A.M.

I was feeling greatly relieved after the process and various thoughts were playing in my mind, the mind-boggling guitar playing from David Gilmour, the lead guitarist of the psychedelic rock band, Pink Floyd, one of the most versatile band of all times, for the song “On the turning away” (Lyrics) The music just kept cycling around my mind in an infinite loop perpetually, transporting me to a totally different world, or even to a different universe as you may call it, as I start to understand the deep lyrics and the thought that is in the lyrics and my thought process began to interpret this in my own way…

“I believe…

My purpose in life is accomplished…

And then I went to Sleep…

And Then I realized I have just finished a quarter..

And a three-fourths of a way to go…

I don’t know how much I chant Hare Krishna…

Even if it is 40 it must have been 4320 times…

I don’t want your “likes” or “comments”

I only want your action…”

It suddenly began to dawn on me, that I have a higher purpose to fulfil, and I was preparing to sleep. Just then, a thought came to me, inspired by Srimad Bhagavatham, in order to reach the final destination or the ultimate purpose of life, for the self/soul to achieve its permanent sojourn, it has to travel four times the distance of the vast expanse of the material universe, the material universe being just one-fourth of the total distance of the creation, and three-fourth being occupied by the spiritual sky/spiritual universes.

The spiritual world, which consists of three fourths of the Lord’s energy, is situated beyond this material world, and it is especially meant for those who will never be reborn. Others, who are attached to family life and who do not strictly follow celibacy vows, must live within the three material worlds.” – Canto 2Chapter 6 : Verse 20

The ultimate or the smallest particle, smaller than even the smallest particle in the material universe is the self or the soul – the eternal, all-pervading spiritual particle. Everything is connected with this self/soul and when it means “one has to travel”, it means that the self/soul has to travel by becoming unbound from the clutches of the material universe and the three modes of material nature, and go back to its original destination, like the spark reaching the source (it’s obvious that the probability is very very less in that!) , and not keep transmigrating in this material universe eternally!

That relates within the body, higher than the senses and the sense objects, exists the mind. More subtle than the mind is the intelligence, and higher and more subtle than the intellect is the self/soul. That self/soul is hidden in all beings and does not shine forth, but is seen by subtle seers through their sharp intellect.” – Katha Upanishad, one of the major Upanishads.

It is said that Krishnaloka or Goloka Vrindavana exists in the core or centre of the spiritual skies or Vaikuntha planets, hence the distance of four times the material universes, as calculated by the seers in their transcendental vision. One has to travel to reach there to attain the highest purpose of life. In that world, the experiences or rasas are even more transcendental and blissful than the spiritual planets or Vaikunthas.

At that time, the thought came to me, somehow I may cross the first one-fourth but what about the remaining three-fourth?

Chanting Hare Krishna is the only legitimate method in this Kaliyuga to achieve this end, the solution is again mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatham:

My dear King, although Kali-yuga is an ocean of faults, there is still one good quality about this age: Simply by chanting the Hare Krsna maha-mantra, one can become free from material bondage and be promoted to the transcendental kingdom. Whatever result was obtained in Satya-yuga by meditating on Visnu, in Treta-yuga by performing sacrifices, and in Dvapara-yuga by serving the Lord’s lotus feet can be obtained in Kali-yuga simply by chanting the Hare Krsna maha-mantra.” – Canto 12Chapter 3 : Verses 5152

Even if I chant 40 rounds a day (1 round = 108 chants of Hare Krishna Mahamantra) or 4320 chants, will Lord Krishna accept me there!

And Krishna said to me (or you can say this thought arose in me), this is the online world of “likes” and “comments” and I am least bothered about them, I only want your action, i.e continuous chanting of the mahamantra in available time…

This is the interpretation of that post.

  1. “At that time, the thought came to me, somehow I may cross the first one-fourth but what about the remaining three-fourth?:”
—- Even brahma had to try to cross that canal of lotus, in 3rd canto, only to see that he is back where he was. So, its not travel that is asked by GOD but being his agent or instrument in his creation, which will eventually elevate us, just like sleep takes us through hours of time unnoticeable. 🙂

    1. So true. I also didn’t mean the travel of a physical particle or something that has its own boundaries within the physical universe. I use to wonder the mention of two spiritual beings taking Dhruva in an aeroplane stepping over death personified, that aeroplane is as big as a house and his mother Sunithi coming in another aeroplane.. but I understand and come to know it’s the level of God realisation. So it’s the spiritual particle that is beyond the physical boundaries trying to reach a destination to where it originally belong as Krishna says in the beginning of Gita 15th chapter..mamaivamso jivaloke… This soul is a fragmented and separated parts of!Me struggling for existence in this physical world through repeated births and deaths for which the mind is responsible for keeping it afloat transporting it to one material body after another and liberation is just the identity of the soul with the original source and with the physical body mind intelligence and contaminated consciousness that deludes one to think I am that is the cause of this separated existence.
