Conversation 065 – Detachment, Surrender and Liberation

This conversation is between a middle-aged person and his mother discussing about detachment, surrender and on achieving liberation from this material existence.

Seeker 2: Even if people knows about their problems very well, they do not make an attempt to fix it but do something else to get diverted away from it temporarily, will the problem go away by itself?

Seeker 2: I was just lying in a sofa without doing anything for two hours pondering about my issues and now only getting a bit fresh and you came to meet me.

Seeker 2: I understand that Krishna is doing everything for a reason and hence I have no regrets. Only the external mind is undergoing everything and affecting the soul that is foolishly attached to the mind.

Seeker 1: Hmm. I am thinking of how I was at the age of 35 to 45.

Seeker 2: I say don’t think about it because it will only give you pain considering the facilities for learning available now and available then and still people not making use of it!

Seeker 2: No use talking and praising about self-achievements. Does that change the present situation? Only by understanding the reality and endeavour to come out of these situations every time and learning from the experiences to face new situations can one survive in this present hostile world.

Seeker 2: You always say this situation will change and yes it will and it does. It may change for the better or for the worse but one should be equipoised in both the situations because we should understand that certain things are beyond our control.

Seeker 1: Yes!

Seeker 2: Krishna says to Arjuna in Bhagavad Gita: wise people do not lament either for the living or for the dead. Arjuna (Nara) is a human incarnation of Lord Vishnu / Lord Krishna (Naaraayanaa) but still has to undergo these kinds of situations, what are we compared to him?

Seeker 2: Srimad Bhagavatham mentions how Vidura was overtaken by grief because of his brother and his sons who acted without virtue throughout their life and how Uddhava was unable to handle the separation of Krishna but both Vidura and Uddhava were equipoised despite their difficult situations because both of them knew the science of God.

Seeker 1: Yes, the wheel of time is always spinning. It is not always at the bottom; it has to come to the top.

Seeker 2: If you do not find people with like disposition, for few moments negative thoughts always come up but only Krishna can give the intelligence to come out of these situations. There is no use worrying about anyone or anything. Everyone is destined to face their situations and they have to ultimately come out of it by their own endeavours.

Seeker 2: Knowing this if you still get depressed then what do we learn from our past experiences? Trying to get out of these relationships and live impartially is the only means to attain liberation. Realising birth and death process is a biggest pain and getting away from it is the biggest knowledge, everything else is useless!

Seeker 1: What to do, I am an ordinary human being?

Seeker 2: Everybody is ordinary only. Going beyond and realising these facts is what makes humans different from animals!

Seeker 1: Yes, that is too hard. Blood is thicker than water.

Seeker 2: Tell me how did your mother live? Have you seen her getting attached to anyone or anything? Tell me this and your answer will tell if she is a good candidate for liberation.

Seeker 1: How shall I tell this? She was hard of hearing and that was somewhat advantageous to her, but she was very intelligent.

Seeker 2: Yes. Still she was also a human being like us with emotions, relationships, eyes that can see all the nonsense happening around and understand what is going on. Right?  Tell me based on this!

Seeker 1: She always use to say I have to leave this world when everyone of you is in a good position. That was her prayer all the time.

Seeker 2: There is nothing special in this. Everyone wishes that only. Being in a good position is only a relative concept. If people around you are greedy and envious, every situation is bad and unfortunate. Most people are not contented with how much ever they have got or how much ever they have achieved in their life.

Seeker 1: Yes. She has never gotten angry with anyone or anything anytime, never acting with emotions, always treating everyone equally, revering her husband for whatever he may have done. Always getting up very early and doing her duties wholeheartedly and without any grudge, not getting envy or jealous of anyone, not lazy any time, always very good and works really hard to full satisfaction of everyone – all these characteristics were there.

Seeker 2: All these are certainly divine characteristics of godly people. All our characteristics are certainly determined and tested at the time of death for sure, only based on that one gets a next birth or not in this material universe. If one has leftover desires even subtle, still there is no escape from next birth!

Seeker 2: One should not desire next birth at any cost. This is the biggest blunder because what one gets as the next birth is determined by what one did so far and is not according to one’s own whims and fancies. So somehow one has got to get detached from this material world, though extremely difficult but not impossible.

Seeker 2: That is why maam ekam saranam vraja is the biggest secret, often mentioned by learned authorities as secret of all secrets!

Seeker 1: Yes, I will try my level best.

Seeker 2: Yes, all of us should yearn and strive for that. Performing fruitive activities, going to temple yearning for material rewards or accomplishments etc are useless activities aimed at degradation of the soul. They are all to be considered as mere rituals and hence only leads to bondage. Unless one renounce everything from the bottom of the heart, liberation cannot be attained.

Seeker 1: mam ekam saranam vraja.

Seeker 2: Hare Krishna!

Conversation 064 – Inner Engineering? Part 5 (Conclusion)

Seeker 2: You will not believe another incident that happened in Noida that is purely based out of instinct or something that even I could not comprehend it had happened!

Seeker 2: After that photo and blog post on the spot (People of the Street), I was walking alone towards my PG.

Seeker 2: I noticed another young lady with very small baby in her arms within 100 meters, having nothing to eat except a small half Parle G biscuit packet. And she looked at me, it was almost almost 10 on the night.

Seeker 2: I don’t know what happened to me that time.

Seeker 2: I just emptied the purse, didn’t even know how much money was inside, just gave it to her and walked away. Then casually walked to the nearby ATM withdrew something and went back to my accommodation. I couldn’t believe what I was doing and realised it only after I went back to the PG!

Seeker 2: I don’t think anyone will believe it but I know you will believe it because you are my best friend!

Seeker 2: You know one thing, just like law of conservation of energy, total quantity of natural resources also remains constant. It’s only improper distribution that is the cause of all problems in this world. If only everyone realises what they need and not want more than that there will be no beggars in this world. So, you get the explanation on what you asked and why people want to blame Krishna for their own nonsense?

Seeker 2: This is a big science and just one Upanishad so small that it contains only 18 verses explains everything so clearly. It is called Sri Isopanishad that gives solutions to poverty and unequal distribution of wealth in this world. This is considered to be one of the smallest upanishads but considered most important.

Seeker 2: People are losing out on the real knowledge and living a life like this not knowing what they are doing.

Seeker 2: But I hope you are getting?

Seeker 1: What?

Seeker 2: Yes

Seeker 1: Yep

Seeker 1: Hmm. No now bothers about this at current era / time.

Seeker 2: Path of destruction is inevitable.

Seeker 1: Yes, it’s already known to everyone! But what made you to do that…were you hypnotized/ you felt to give her whatever you have…Was she expecting that from you?

Seeker 2: No, I was not hypnotized or anything. Already I couldn’t give anything to the lady and the baby in that photo. I was staying alone, so many things were going on in my mind that time…was listening in full volume as I was walking, the most favourite songs from pink Floyd (On the turning away from the album A momentary lapse of reason came back to haunt again – the song that gives goosebumps and teleports me every time I listen to it! depicting similar situation – This same song haunted me at 2 in the night just 4 months earlier! (Interpretations to Post 40: Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam – Do check this!)

Seeker 2: I came from the temple after an amazing divine, you can say ecstatic experience…I was walking the entire distance up and down about 4.5 kms one way. The pathway was very lonely at that time of the night…it was just an instant reaction without any explanation.

Seeker 2: The small baby and mother I saw earlier…they were sleeping peaceful in a rugged blanket…it was February, really cold, if I placed the money there, I thought someone will take it. So, I really felt disappointed and went away…

Seeker 2: immediately within 100 meters I noticed another in much worse condition and just did that I didn’t know that I did!

Seeker 1: Hmm.

Seeker 2: When seeing so many people committing suicide these days, are their conditions any worse than these people? That’s the problem with us because of too much material attachment! I thought whatever I had could be able to sustain them for considerable days because of their minimalistic needs and Krishna will surely save them by His own means!

Seeker 1: Hmm!

Concluded

Conversation 063 – Inner Engineering? Part 4

Seeker 2: Coming back to your statement: “If really special mercy is provided by Lord Krishna there won’t be any beggars in this world!” …

Seeker 2: How do you know they are happy or not by being a beggar? Actually, none of us are happy in this material world because all of us are faced with birth, death, old age and disease that is not in our control! If you ask me this question, I would say that it’s all just being satisfied with the self in any situation!

Seeker 1: Hmm this is unexpected thought!

Seeker 2: Hmm. I have been with them, spoken with them. Actually, they look much peaceful than the biggest anxious businessmen or any people who consider themselves affluent! I have observed them in their sleep. Their face looks more serene and less worried than people like us who constantly worry about our families and their future! Yes, People with no homes and no people to call themselves as friends or relatives. No means of earning for any livelihood!

Seeker 1: Oh…

Seeker 1: Yes, I have been with many of them, spent time with them, talked to them to know more about them, got them food, sat with them to make sure they have it, while they share their lives and why they have come to the state. Many have been cheated robbed snatched of their belongings and no place to stay or go back. Almost all are genuine cases!

Seeker 2: I could clearly observe by talking to them thinking they are also human beings like one of us! Just a small breakfast for 25 rupees is enough to earn their blessings for life.

Seeker 2: I don’t mention all these to anyone they would brand me as crazy…That is the nature of this world. So, I am keeping it to myself because Krishna is watching everything. I am not doing anything to gain any punya or merit or something only because we are indebted to nature for being born as a human being, who has the consciousness to achieve higher purpose to life – go beyond birth death old age and disease.

Seeker 2: The higher ideals of life cannot be thought of or put into practice without any expectations or rewards unless it is willed by Krishna on us. That’s why it’s important to be persistent in practice because only through that opportunities come in life to satisfy Krishna and it is these very simple and basic things alone that can satisfy Him, not extravagant display of wealth in the name of putting up shows for devotion.

Seeker 2: He is just satisfied with simple offerings of flower fruit leaf of water with devotion though He has provided us the entire universe for us. People of the Street: This was in Noida returning back from Iskcon temple to PG around 9.30 at night then and there I took the picture and posted into the blog from the mobile.

Seeker 2: How many people got the actual meaning of that message? I don’t know and I can’t care about it because almost everyone is on the grand path to self-destruction!

Seeker 2: I will tell you one incident to show the resilience of such people that we can’t even think about it. One such person I met at the Chennai Central very recently when I have to wait there my train for nearly 3 to 4 hours. Bought some breakfast on my insistence because he was sitting next to me. He was so determined that he didn’t even want to ask!  Came to know these people have amazing persistence to tolerate hunger without showing it openly!

Seeker 2: Can just survive with just drinking water for periods that is beyond our tolerance level before someone can get them some solid food!

Seeker 2: I was really stunned as he was saying that and I also could observe it!

Seeker 2: Just this stanza from Srimad Bhagavatham came to my mind as I was looking at him:

Seeker 2: “My dear King, a self-satisfied person can be happy even with only drinking water. However, one who is driven by the senses, especially by the tongue and genitals, must accept the position of a household dog to satisfy his senses.” – Srimad Bhagavatham 7.15.18

Seeker 2: Sought his blessings having seen in person such a person I have never seen like this before and was wondering how this statement from Srimad Bhagavatham is practically possible in this world and in this age!

Seeker 2: So realised everything mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatham is practically possible and eternally true!

Seeker 1: Wow great! Really man…That’s too much!

Seeker 1: It was amazing. This is really unbelievable.

Seeker 2: Yes indeed! He was simply sitting in one place for hours not getting bored at all.

Seeker 1: They do not feel hunger?

Seeker 2: Came from a nearby village. Don’t know. He was simply sitting, hasn’t eaten anything since previous evening didn’t even brushed his teeth asked me for toothpaste around 11 in the morning and we started talking! He didn’t have any money and so he could not go out anywhere and was saying he will be waiting till 10 in the night when someone will come and see him.

Seeker 2: Was just having one plastic water bottle and no other belongings!

Seeker 1: Who can come and see him?

Seeker 2: Was wondering there are people in the world like this and no one to bother ☹

Seeker 1: Hmm that’s strange, friend!

Seeker 2: He Was trying to claim some money from that person who was supposed to come and see him. He wasn’t sure whether he will come!

Seeker 1: Hmmm

Seeker 1: Then what next?

Seeker 2: No mobile phone nothing to communicate!!!

Seeker 1: How anyone would know where he is? Even if they come, can they find him?

Seeker 2: Go to the railway station or bus stand and you will see and you will have the first-hand experience of these kind of people only if you have the inclination to talk to them!

Seeker 1: Yeah true…Do you think most of them are in blissful state without money and having just water 💦? What did you do to that person?

Seeker 2: Definitely not in a blissful state by his appearance! I got him lunch and tea and was with him till the time for my train. What else I can do?

Seeker 2: And he blessed me. That’s why I love to travel alone. Otherwise I couldn’t do these things.  Krishna is so kind to me. To give these opportunities and also to take it.!

Conversation 062 – Inner Engineering? Part 3

Seeker 1: I feel one missing with context though I can understand that you are contented within yourself! Isn’t it true??

Seeker 1: Inner controller?? Do you know what it is?? Can you tell if you don’t mind ?? Soul awaken in oneself – means being conscious??

Seeker 2: It’s like starting to tell you everything all over again 😦

Seeker 2: It’s like earning money and being fully involved in that area and its related ways and also being overly involved in spiritual consciousness and awareness 😊 both are totally disconnected ways like parallel lines that do not converge! It’s only cheating oneself if one thinks both can be accomplished together!

Seeker 2: Read this again what Shri Krishna has to say on this if you didn’t read it

Seeker 2: “The Personality of Godhead said: If I especially favor someone, I gradually deprive him of his wealth. Then the relatives and friends of such a poverty-stricken man abandon him. In this way he suffers one distress after another. When he becomes frustrated in his attempts to make money and instead befriends My devotees, I bestow My special mercy upon him. A person who has thus become sober fully realizes the Absolute as the highest truth, the most subtle and perfect manifestation of spirit, the transcendental existence without end. In this way realizing that the Supreme Truth is the foundation of his own existence, he is freed from the cycle of material life.” – Srimad Bhagavatham 10.88.8 – 10

Seeker 2: This is what is the higher purpose of life – Not very anxious to earn lot of money and maintain it for our temporary material existence which we are going to lose everything at the point of death! It’s only the spiritual aspects and assets that is gained in this human life that is going to keep up in good stead for this life and the life after…

Seeker 2: If you are unable to get this aspect that means you are covered by illusion but I know you are able to understand this aspect because I am sure you are aware of these concepts since we have discussed these things quite a lot over the years!

Seeker 2: This is not some materialistic sciences like physics chemistry etc., this is metaphysical and can be realised only through practical experiences.

Seeker 2: No matter how much one speaks about it, explains it, writes about it, the listener or the reader just can’t get to it because it’s self-experience and one has to realise it!

Seeker 2: That’s why people like Shankaracharya Ramanujacharya are Shankaracharya Ramanujacharya are and we are we! Sanyasis voluntarily renounce everything for higher purpose.

Seeker 1: Why do you think that way?

Seeker 2: We can only experience their awareness and be awed by it but not so easy to get to that level as we are, because we are struggling with basic aspects of everyday life!

Seeker 1: Why Krishna has to do it? Is it right way of doing it? If really special mercy is provided by Lord Krishna there won’t be any beggars in this world!

Seeker 2: If you are questioning like this, this is only because your mind is so much tuned to the external world and not something that is inside you. This is lower level of awareness!

Seeker 1: Good point – I need your inputs here to take that into my mind. Do you believe mind is yours? Mind does not belong to either body or so called Atma right?

Seeker 2: Nothing is ours!!! This is the main and the most important point!!! Not knowing this properly is the root cause of all the problems.

Seeker 1: Exactly!

Seeker 1: Tell me one thing how Atma gets associated with mind?? What are the pre-conditions that takes into consideration before it gets associated with mind?? We discussed about it earlier too does Atma has mind or not? Do you know the answer for it? Can you tell this here briefly? Agree mind is like a monkey it does all sorts of monkey activities even though you have human mind. So far, I believe Atma will a temporary mind for about a month / year after it departs body then gets into cycle of finding another mind before getting associated with Body… I’m still not sure about what happens to paramatma after Atma leaves body?

Seeker 2: I don’t know any answers on my own. I get answers only from the most authentic source, The Srimad Bhagavatham and Bhagavad Gita. They have the answers to all questions and this is mentioned in these literatures itself and that is the only fact. It’s really a gradual spiritual evolution process.

Seeker 2: The mind is so much conditioned and obstinate because of our life experiences that it gets carried away by all the accumulated nonsense that it actually refuses to take in the actual truth.  That is not your problem because of all the assumption you are saying is based mostly on your readings and understandings from that and from your own life experiences!

Seeker 2: I will come back to the same favourite statement from Srimad Bhagavatham that we keep discussing and talking and how much that is applicable for normal person like us living in conditioned family life. Check this statement again…

Seeker 2: “The brāhmaṇa Jaḍa Bharata said: My dear King, although you are not at all experienced, you are trying to speak like a very experienced man. Consequently, you cannot be considered an experienced person. An experienced person does not speak the way you are speaking about the relationship between a master and a servant or about material pains and pleasures. These are simply external activities. Any advanced, experienced man, considering the Absolute Truth, does not talk in this way.” – Srimad Bhagavatham 5.11.1

Seeker 1: Hahaha…yes, you got it 👍 This is our favourite quote ever! 😃

Seeker 2: What you are speaking and your mindset is also approximately very similar unfortunately, but that can be eradicated only through right knowledge and dedicated to learning that knowledge and living a life that way!

Seeker 2: I tell you one more thing that is mentioned at the end of all the teachings to King Rahugana on this knowledge, how difficult it is to pursue it, but how rewarding it is in the end…

Seeker 2: “Having summarized the teachings of Jaḍa Bharata, Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: My dear King Parīkṣit, the path indicated by Jaḍa Bharata is like the path followed by Garuḍa, the carrier of the Lord, and ordinary kings are just like flies. Flies cannot follow the path of Garuḍa, and to date none of the great kings and victorious leaders could follow this path of devotional service, not even mentally.” – Srimad Bhagavatham 5.14.42.

Seeker 2: Isn’t this amazing? And how true???

Seeker 1: Yeah got it!

Seeker 2: 👍

Conversation 061 – Inner Engineering? Part 2

Seeker 1: Prayers to Priya Krishna on his birthday. What you are trying to do? Pray / Burst out / Trying to speak with him?

Seeker 2: Sometimes I even do that because nobody listens to me on these things ☹

Seeker 1: I can’t read fully…have you stopped intentionally?

Seeker 2: No, I concluded it. I was only a short prayer.

Seeker 2: Coming back to our previous conversation, that’s why I keep saying everything depends on diet, prayers, fasting on Ekadashis, listening, readings etc over prolonged periods of time changes the constituents of the mind and body for sure.

Seeker 2: These things are very difficult to explain and can be realised only when one puts the body and mind and stresses it to a very great extent.

Seeker 2: This is really a gradual process.

Seeker 2: Persistence can happen only because of Krishna’s grace.

Seeker 2: His presence is really there I strongly believe it and observe it. It’s very subtle and unable to describe it in words. If you want to gain something even minutely materialistic for your own satisfaction, you are lost!  Because He give more than what you deserve without even asking for it is pretty petty to ask for materialistic prosperity in any terms!

Seeker 2: All these may sound like a mad man speaking but you know, there are only two categories of people who can be really happy in this world… the insane who are totally unaware of the surroundings and the spiritually realised who are aware of everything!

Seeker 2: It’s only the in between like us who are facing horrible situations and suffering because this concept of I and mine dominate with only these kinds of people that is the cause of all misery!

Seeker 2: This is the summary of both Gita and Bhagavatham.

Seeker 2: If you understand this much and take it to you, you will start to understand everything slowly! Yes I did had experiences that are hard to explain but I make sure no one else is around for sure during these times because I don’t want to prove again and again that I am manic😛

Seeker 2: See this!

Seeker 2: Below is another important verse!

Seeker 2: “A person who is not self-controlled will not be happy even with possessing the three worlds. Material existence causes discontent in regard to fulfilling one’s lusty desires and achieving more and more money. This is the cause for the continuation of material life, which is full of repeated birth and death. But one who is satisfied by that which is obtained by destiny is fit for liberation from this material existence.” Srimad Bhagavatham 8.19.25

Seeker 1: You earlier said this process is a long term or a gradual change – How long approximately? I 100% believe Krishna is there. I agree but materialistic things are needed for yourself when you get old and for your family. If you have something enough for that you don’t even think about it…

Seeker 1: Is that realisation going to happen soon or after our sufferings? True. This is something I’m not liking in this process. Why one has to leave family and friends and one has to suffer to understand the absolute truth? Why can’t one understand this having wealth??

Seeker 1: If you are able to manage your mind this can also be managed to not to get distracted with materialistic word and focus on absolute truth. Isn’t it? Do you agree or not??

Seeker 2: If It’s persistence and extremely sincere devotion towards Krishna, then realisation can happen anytime! At that stage, you no longer notice any difference between suffering and happiness and you will realise these are only the dual nature of materialistic existence!

Seeker 2: I don’t believe that it is in one’s hands. Krishna will take full care of who is fully surrendered to Him. If one starts to think I can do it myself, that’s where all the trouble starts because this is obviously not possible!

Seeker 2: It’s not leaving anyone it’s living with anyone without having too much attachment or dependence on anyone.

Seeker 2: Wealth will impede the process. This is not going to happen because of the energy of Maya and illusion that acts strongly and we will get carried away by that!

Seeker 2: All answers to your questions are right here!!!! – Bali Mahārāja Surrenders His Life

Seeker 1: That means you have not managed your mind well…or one don’t know how to manage their mind!!!

Seeker 2: How can you say that or what is making you say that? You kindly read this one chapter properly and come back to me if you have any questions.

Seeker 2: If you don’t get to read either Bhagavad Gita or Srimad Bhagavatham you will not be able to comprehend how much ever in detail I try to answer these types of questions. it’s only waste of time and effort from both of our sides. Answers can be given and discussed only in reference to various contexts mentioned at various places in them.

Seeker 2: That’s why I said if the body and mind get “conditioned” due to various improper habits, abstinence and purification because of that is required to bring the mind under control so as to assimilate higher thoughts and ideals!

Seeker 2: Mainly 4 things mentioned in Shrimad Bhagavatham are the cause of degradation of soul – Intoxication, Meat eating, Gambling and Inappropriate sex habits.

Seeker 2: Even one of them is sufficient to continue for one to be in a state of various thoughts you have been describing today that makes it more and more impossible to realise the higher purpose of life.

Seeker 2: I am not meant to discourage you if you may be having any of these four habits, the natural process of spiritual realisation hinders that. That cannot be denied because this is according to the most primary and most valued scriptures Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatham.

Seeker 2: Continuous study of these scriptures and practice in day-to-day life for realising absolute truth through the gained knowledge with renewed rigour often leads to testing situations as well as discouragement from people around but since this is a personal experience, one gets indescribable satisfaction within the self.

Seeker 2: The person will look like a fool to the external world often ridiculed as someone who doesn’t live with the tide and adapt to situations to earn money etc. It’s not his fault because his consciousness gets purified to listen to the inner controller within himself and invoked by Krishna’s grace through Srimad Bhagavatham and Bhagavad Gita.

Seeker 2: Nothing else can invoke that within us because it is fully inside and covered by false ego and can be listened to only if our soul is awakened and our intelligence is directed inward to listen to these instructions. The answers that is all there in Srimad Bhagavatham and Bhagavad Gita will be automatically realised then!

Conversation 060 – Inner Engineering?

This is really a lengthy conversation with my best friend. I am breaking it into multiple posts for our convenience. Thank you very much for reading!

Seeker 1: Have you heard about ISHA Kriya and their program on Inner Engineering?

Seeker 2: Yeah … I have heard about it.

Seeker 2: Most people blindly get into these kinds of things in the name of yoga and meditation because they are unable to manage stress in their life but want relief through some shortcut means.

Seeker 2: Nobody wants to put sincere efforts by subjecting their body and be self-controlled. With no proper diet control nothing can be ever achieved!

Seeker 2: If one says inner engineering is possible for anyone that means he is only interested towards money making by trying to exploit these kinds of people. However, if he is scrutinizing in selecting people for the program he is genuinely interested in the welfare of the people. Otherwise the tendencies of these modern day “gurus” is to cheat with false promises just to extract money for their establishment.

Seeker 1: What is the best way then? Is this the only way? Do you know the best diet control? I believe it again changes from person to person based on body type. It’s not possible for every human being??  Why not if one practice it?

Seeker 2: People have to throw away their bad habits first (primarily intoxication, meat eating, gambling and unregulated sex habits) and be sober for quite a while before indulging into inner engineering or things like that. Otherwise whatever one tries, his efforts will not be effective.

Seeker 2: Most “gurus” starts with strict principles in the beginning but gets diluted midway because the profit motive and “preaching according to the nature of people” comes into picture. Original intentions and the principles will get slowly lost in the course of time and in the name of flexibility and advertisements and with constant pestering for donations in the name of introducing philanthropy to common people by bring a false hope that one can compensate for bad karma in the name of these kind of donations!

Seeker 2: One is going to reap for whatever one has done no matter what, if not from this birth, from all the previous births! People are not aware of basic principles and without any basic knowledge on scriptures do everything nonsense and blame everything as they continue to struggle with problems in life. This includes the so called educated who claims they know everything but in practicality, their life is only oriented towards money making and gaining high positions in society, which are all temporary and do not lead to any higher purpose either in this life or after death!

Seeker 1: Hahaha … nicely said though! But my basic question remain what is best diet plan and how to find that plan suits one’s body??? If everything our moods/ emotions / thoughts are dependent on what one eats???

Seeker 2: Yes, surely it gradually builds over the years.

Seeker 1: What is the best diet plan and how to get to it without any complications?

Seeker 2: Mainly because food is also classified into three modes and so one becomes what one eats!

Seeker 1: Three modes?

Seeker 2: Check this post for details on the three modes of material nature: Conversation 026 – Modes of material nature (and beyond)

Seeker 2: Yes – Goodness, Passion and Ignorance or Sattvic, Rajasic and Tamasic.

Seeker 1: Yeah. All is mentioned in Bhagavad Gita. One should ignore Tamasic and Rajasic types of food? That is best one to follow…

Seeker 2: Yes, Different types of food and how one is according to what one eats! If one does not read and live according to Bhagavad Gita his life is really a failure in spiritual terms!

Conversation 059 – Worshipping “Gods” Vs Worshipping the Supreme Lord

Happy Radhashtami! Jai Shri Krishna! Jai Shrimati Radharani!

Seeker 1: I want to share an excerpt from a post I have been reading and it would be great if you could share your views on that. Please check:

I am proud of my daughter for being a true Vaishnava and I am happy to share her post –

As a true Vaishnava I do not celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi (making/eating kozhukkattais (sweets) does not count!).

Every individual following a religion subscribes to a certain philosophy; and a God and they choose to worship according to that belief. Some Hindus pray to multiple Gods, Some Iyengars practice polymorphic monotheism. We subscribe to the idea of only one supreme God, (Paramatma) and the rest (including demigods) are all either sentient (jivatma) or insentient (achit). This principle, called tatvatrayam is the basis of Visishtadvaitam, which I follow as an Iyengar.
Iyengars are called ‘Sri Vaishnavas’. The word Sri Vaishnava means “the one who belongs to Vishnu”.
Iyengars who follow this practice have been chided by those who do not believe in this philosophy. Since I follow Visishtadvaitam, my belief is that Lord Vishnu is the Paramatma.

Seeker 2: There is nothing to be proud of in this! 😦 What is there to being proud in this??? Being proud is the biggest cause of concern and all sorts of complex and complexity starts with that! 😊. What do you mean by true Vaishnava? Either you are a Vaishnava or you are not. That’s all. There’s nothing in between! And Vaishnava is developing the 26 qualities of a Vaishnava and living as a Vaishnava by being an example. A Vaishnava is a person who manifests the following 26 good qualities:

(1) Very kind.

(2) Always friendly.

(3) Truthful.

(4) Impartial.

(5) Faultless.

(6) Magnanimous.

(7) Mild.

(8) Uncontaminated.

(9) Without possessions.

(10) Works for everyone’s benefit.

(11) Very peaceful.

(12) Always surrendered to Krishna.

(13) No material desires.

(14) Gentle.

(15) Steady.

(16) Sense control.

(17) Frugal.

(18) Un-influenced by Maya.

(19) Respectful.

(20) Humility.

(21) Very grave.

(22) Merciful.

(23) Friendly.

(24) Poetic.

(25) Expert.

(26) Silent. – Srimad Bhagavatham – 5.18.12 Purport

Seeker 2: Not by eating kozhukattai or not one becomes a Vaishnava! 😊.

Seeker 2: Being a Vaishnava is a quality that doesn’t come by birth as being born as an “Iyengar” or something. It only comes by developing the qualities of a Vaishnava. So, the primary surmise by calling oneself on the caste names and associating oneself as Vaishnava only calls for sectarianism.

Seeker 2: In Kali yuga where none of the Brahminical / Vedic practices can be / are practiced properly and because everything is polluted, the occupational duties and varnashrama system is totally lost now. Everything has been compromised and if one does not accept this fact one is in the dark for sure!
Seeker 2: Praying to Lord Vishnu by acknowledging Him as the superior being is one thing and praying to Lord Shiva, Lord Vinayaka, Lord Muruga etc who are empowered incarnations/devotees could also be taken as praying to Vishnu but in an indirect way because Vishnu is there as Paramatma in everything living or non-living and everything is His manifestation. He is there even inside every atom!
Seeker 2: Majority are believing in certain beliefs just by following some instructions from someone whom they consider knowledgeable and by listening to some discourses in YouTube etc. by those who satisfy their whims. Most of them do not even enquire what they mean and how it is applicable in present life situations and are easily misled because of lack of self-enquiry, people therefore believe and do as they wish and according to their own whims change their practices according to time, place and situations.
Seeker 2: Krishna just says Maam Ekam Saranam Vraja (BG 18.66) – mentioning and explaining this in detail is more than enough instead of this twisted round about explanations. Trying to show one false superiority is the root cause of all problems. Religion is all personal and based on situation and for the individual soul to attain the supreme destination is the experience of the individual objective and that is the only objective of this human birth.. Explanation needs to be given only to the right people, not to everyone under the sun just because they ask for it because most people cannot comprehend these things because each one of us is under the three modes of material nature and therefore would only lead to unnecessary arguments and misinterpretations!
Seeker 2: Krishna also says first offer it to the demigods who is ordained their respective functions and that is as good as offering to Me because it will anyway reach Me through them.
Seeker 2: “In charge of the various necessities of life, the demigods, being satisfied by the performance of yajna [sacrifice], supply all necessities to man. But he who enjoys these gifts without offering them to the demigods in return is certainly a thief”. – Bhagavad Gita 3.12. it’s also a known fact that watering the roots nourishes the entire tree and feeding the stomach satisfies the entire body. Similarly satisfying Shri Krishna satisfies everyone and everything. But to reach that level of awareness or understanding can be attained only by unalloyed service developing the qualities of a Vaishnava. That is why Krishna Himself mentions this as the most confidential secret that is to be gradually understood and that is why that is His final instruction at the very end – Maam Ekam Saranam vraja – Bhagavad Gita 18.66. Otherwise, He could have said that at the very beginning itself and closed Bhagavad Gita at 2.11 itself and need not have started sermonising beginning with the concepts of the soul 🙂
Seeker 1: Your explanation is really good!
Seeker 2: 😀 Nothing great in this!
Seeker 2: There are certain things to be practiced regularly before one comes to talk on religious or spiritual aspects and also to gradually develop these mentioned Vaishnava qualities because this is the science of life not that of materialistic sciences like the subject matter that is taught in schools ,colleges etc.! These are some of the following that are to be cultivated:

Seeker 2: Learning to live without any expectations combined with continuous readings and listening’s of scriptures, primarily Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatham from authentic sources in line with proper disciplic succession to understand and realise the Absolute Truth.
Seeker 2: Not talking unnecessarily (Silence) and not getting involved in any topics that are useless and are not food for the soul.
Seeker 2: Being restrictive in eating habits, drinking lots of water, fasting regularly and completely avoiding rajasic and tamasic foods.

Seeker 2: Avoiding association of people who believe in only money and earning money is the only thing in life.
Seeker 2: Not getting involved in unnecessary arguments about anyone on/or anything.
Seeker 2: Knowing what is our purpose and sticking with it at all costs and circumstances, no matter what.
Seeker 2: Realising you can’t make anyone understand anything no matter how much you try since It’s only waste of time and energy. One can only be just an influencer. The change has got to begin from oneself.
Seeker 1: You are very clear and correct!
Seeker 2: Doing all the above in a gradual and phased manner and persisting with it despite the hardships that it will bring in initially by strongly believing these aspects will change one’s quality of life for better in the long run.
Seeker 1: yes, I understood.
Seeker 2: “Different people are of different mentalities. Therefore it is not my business either to praise them or to blaspheme them. I only desire their welfare, hoping that they will agree to become one with the Supersoul, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa.Srimad Bhagavatham 7.13.42
Seeker 2: This must be the attitude to be followed as mentioned by a care free Avadhutha to Prahalada Maharaja when he enquired on his way of life.
Seeker 1: Everything runs according to the grace of God. God is great. Sarvam Krishnarpanam!
Seeker 2: Yes. 100% true!

Seeker 2: “Nārada Muni desired that Nalakūvara and Maṇigrīva see Vāsudeva face to face, the Supreme Personality of Godhead wanted to fulfill the words of His very dear devotee Nārada Muni. If one seeks the favor of a devotee instead of directly asking favors from the Supreme Personality of Godhead, one is very easily successful.” – Srimad Bhagavatham 10.10.25 Purport.
Seeker 2: Another reference to you to enhance what we were discussing. So, whoever one may worship if the wish is not selfish one will surely reach Krishna otherwise there is no chance!
Seeker 1: Super!

Seeker 2: Lord Shri Krishna’s daily activities is mentioned like this in Srimad Bhagavatham: “Lord Krsna would  offer obeisances to the cows, brähmaëas and demigods, His elders and spiritual masters, and all living beings—all of whom are expansions of His supreme personality. Then He would touch auspicious things“. Srimad Bhagavatham 10.70.10.

Seeker 2: This is Lord Shri Krishna’s one of the final instructions to Sri Uddhava in the Bhakti yoga section of Uddhava Gita: “For him who constantly meditates upon My  presence within all persons, the bad tendencies of rivalry, envy and abusiveness, along with false ego, are very quickly destroyed. Disregarding the ridicule of one’s companions, one should give up the bodily conception and its accompanying embarrassment. One should offer obeisances before all—even the dogs, outcastes, cows and asses—falling flat upon the ground like a rod. Until one has fully developed the ability to see Me within all living beings, one must continue to worship Me by this process with the activities of his speech, mind and body.” Srimad Bhagavatham 11.29.15, 16, 17.

Seeker 2: Nothing is an authentic as this process of worship as Shri Krishna himself says it: “My dear Uddhava, because I have personally established it, this process of devotional service unto Me is transcendental and free from any material motivation. Certainly a devotee never suffers even the slightest loss by adopting this process.” – Srimad Bhagavatham 11.29.20

Thank you very much!
